Abysses can be found as green fissures in the ground near packs of monsters. Defeating these monsters will release rare Abyssals enhanced with special modifiers. These monsters must be defeated to close the Abyss.

Occasionally while completing abysses, ancient bones that can be used to add special hidden desecrated modifiers. Using the Well of Souls found in Act 2, this modifier can be revealed, providing the option to choose one of three options. The Well of Souls can also affect modifiers on waystones to increase their difficulty and reward.

Abyss is a type of encounter introduced in Rise of the Abyssal league. They are first introduced in Clearfell by an NPC, Mortimer.

Mechanics

Fissures can be found randomly in areas near packs of monsters. Defeating monsters nearby will cause the fissures to close, causing Abyssal monsters to spawn.
