Movement speed
Movement speed (often referred to as MS) is a stat that determines the rate at which an entity can move. It is used to determine the player's walk/run speed, as well as the speed of a dodge roll. The base movement speed modifier of a player is treated as 0% in the Miscellaneous section of the Character screen, which can be interpreted as 100% of base movement speed.
Mechanics
Armour movement penalties
Each Attribute provides a different inherent bonus. the Armour requires. These penalties only apply to equipped Body Armours and Shields.Shields are armour items that are equipped in your off hand. While holding a Shield you have a chance to passively Block. Most Shields can also be raised to Block all incoming Strikes and Projectiles from the front.
Bucklers are a special type of Shield that do not grant any Armour and can Parry enemy skills instead of being raised to Block.
For Body Armour, pure StrengthStrength is an Attribute required to equip most equipment that grants Armour, as well as various melee-aligned Weapons and Skills.
Strength provides an inherent bonus of +2 to maximum Life per 1 Strength.

To calculate movement speed, first the movement speed penalty must be considered. Body armours and shields have an inherent movement speed penalty that applies to base movement speed (100% by default) when equipped according to the following:
Pure evasion shields (bucklers) and foci do not have movement speed penalties.
Other modifiers to movement speed apply to the movement speed value after penalties. For example, boots with 20% increased Movement Speed on a character wearing an energy shield body armour will have a movement speed of:

Movement speed penalty
Certain skills (mainly ranged attacks and spells) allow movement during the skill animation, but at reduced speed. Effects which decrease movement speed penalty will allow you to move faster while using these skills.
Item Modifiers
Boots are the only equipment base type that can roll movement speed modifiers, and it is generally considered the most important modifier on this slot.
