Block
You will still take any Stun, Freeze and other debuffs from the Blocked hit. You can't Block while Stunned or Frozen.
Some skills used by Bosses cannot be blocked. These are indicated by a red glow and audio cue during the windup of the skill.
Blocking is negating or reducing enemy damage with a shield. Shield implicit modifiers may grant the Raise Shield skill, which allows the player to raise their shield, completely negating incoming damage from the front. As the character takes damage while in Active Block, their stagger meter builds up. If the meter fills, the character will be stunned and the Active Block will end. Certain enemies will have unblockable attacks, which are indicated by red flashes over them prior to the attack.
Mechanics
The character still receives Debuffs such as Stun and Freeze associated with the blocked hit despite the damage being negated.
Unblockable skills
Certain monsters may use skills which cannot normally be blocked, which will flash red when used. It is possible to block these skills with the modifier Can Block Damage from all Hits, such as from The Wailing WallThe Wailing Wall

Damage over time cannot be blocked as it does not hit.
Passive block
Chance to block is applied to all blockable incoming hits. When the roll for block chance succeeds, the attack will be negated. The attack can be coming from any direction, unlike active block.
Currently, passive block above .5 will round UP in favor of the player if you achieve a fractional block chance above that percent. For example if you have a 26% block chance on a shield, and an increased block chance of 37% from passive skills or other (non-shield) sources, the resulting 35.62% block chance will be rounded up and represented on your character sheet as 36%.
Active block
When using certain shield skills such as Raise Shield or Shield Charge, the player will gain a directional guaranteed block. This will cause all hits that can be blocked from the direction the shield is facing to be blocked, ignoring your passive chance to block.
Blocking hits through Active Block will build up a stagger meter. When the stun meter is full, the active block skill will be cancelled and the player will become stunned.
All other effects related to block still apply. If players take damage from blocked hits (e.g. from Glancing Blows), this will also apply to Active Block.
