Not to be confused with Default attack.

Granted skills are skills that are granted by items or passive skills rather than from equipping skill gems.

Mechanics

Granted skills from items

When an item is granted by an item, the skill is listed in the item's implicit modifier area. However, note that not all granted skills are considered implicit modifiers. For example, the granted skills found on The Unborn LichThe Unborn Lich

<Lich's Desecrated prefix or suffix>
In ghastly pits beneath the world,
Kulemak grows countless new bodies,
each more powerful than the last.
Not all of his abominations survive.
(excluding Feast of Flesh) are actually prefixes.

The level of the granted skill and the number of gem sockets the skill has is determined by the item's item level. The level and number of sockets cannot be modified (e.g. via Jeweller's Orbs) and do not level up like skills granted by ascendancy notables. For a list of breakpoints, see Gem socket § Skills granted by items and passive skills. Global skill level and skill quality effects apply to granted skills.

Conversely, the level of the granted skill also determines the item's level requirement, if higher than the item's base requirements.

Inherent skills or inherent weapon skills are a sub-category of granted skills that are specific to the base type of the item. These are distinct from exclusive skills granted by some unique items. Some inherent skills also increases the item's attribute requirements to match the skill's attribute requirements based on skill level, if higher than the item's base requirements. It should be noted that the modifier #% reduced Attribute Requirements only affects the item's attribute requirements and does not affect the skill's attribute requirements; both must be satisfied to be able to use the skill.

  • Each wand, staff, and sceptre base type grants an inherent skill that are not typically found as gems. These scale both required level and attributes based on item level. They also gain quality equal to the quality of the weapon, which can be increased using an Arcanist's EtcherArcanist's EtcherStack Size: 20Improves the quality of a wand, staff or sceptreRight click this item then left click a wand, staff or sceptre to apply it. The maximum quality is 20%..
  • Each spear base type grants the inherent skill Spear Throw. However, it is more similar to a default attack. Its level scales with player level but does not affect the required level. It can gain quality, but has no quality effects.
  • Each armoured shield base type grants the inherent skill Raise Shield. It does not have a skill level. It can gain quality, but has no quality effects.
  • Each buckler base type grants the inherent skill Parry. It does not have a skill level. It can gain quality, but has no quality effects.

Inherent skills usually do not have a base mana cost or spirit reservation, though they can be made to do so through other sources.

Version history

Version Changes
0.3.0
  • Items with inherent Skills can now rarely drop with Skill levels up to level 20 in high-tier Maps.
  • Fixed a bug where refunding an Ascendancy Passive Skill that granted a Skill would destroy any Support Gems that were socketed into that Skill. These Skills will now stay visible in the Skills menu until all Supports are removed.
0.1.0
  • Introduced to the game.
