A currency item is an item that can be used to achieve an effect, usually crafting on an item or paying a vendor.
List of currency items
Although currency items do not follow the classic rarity system, they may sometimes be referred to within certain tiers, such as "magic" or "rare". Currency tiers of different types (e.g. Quality vs Socket currency) should not be compared to each other. The following is an estimated list based on patch notes and currency exchange gold fees[1]:

Regular currency
At higher levels, currency with Greater and Perfect tiers use an equity system such that players will find fewer lower tier currency as a percentage of lower tier currency will instead accumulate towards the drop of a higher tier currency. Between item levels 78-80, and even further between 81-82, this percentage increases significantly.[2]
