Rise of the Abyssal league is an Early Access temporary league and the first "full league". It launches on August 29, 2025 as part of Path of Exile 2: The Third Edict in version 0.3.0.

League mechanic

Main article: Abyss

Abysses can be found as green fissures in the ground near packs of monsters. Defeating these monsters will release rare Abyssals enhanced with special modifiers. These monsters must be defeated to close the Abyss.

Fully closing an abyss will reveal Abyssal trove chests containing exclusive items, and sometimes may provide access to the Dark Domain.

Occasionally while completing abysses, ancient bones that can be used to add special hidden desecrated modifiers. Using the Well of Souls found in Act 2, this modifier can be revealed, providing the option to choose one of three options. The Well of Souls can also affect modifiers on waystones to increase their difficulty and reward.
