Once the minion has has their life reduced to 0, they do not die imediately and instead display a dark cloudy effect and cannot recover or regenerate life. They will die after 4 seconds have passed upon entering this state; this duration is fixed and does not appear to be modifiable with skill effect duration. They can die before the duration expires if they take damage exceeding their maximum life while in this state.
