Essences are a type of currency item. They are dropped by essence encounters. Essences will add a guaranteed modifier to an item.
Essences can appear starting from Act 2.
Mechanics
Lesser, normal and greater tier essences will upgrade magic items to rare items, while perfect and corrupted essences will remove a random modifier and augments a rare item with new one.
The modifier added by an essence is fixed. Like other modifiers, each essence modifier also has its own level requirement; it will overwrite the item's default required level if it is higher.
