Rituals are a type of encounter. Rituals are mysterious sacrificial sites built by the The King in the Mists. Interacting with a ritual altar after defeating the enemies in a circle marked around the altar will begin the encounter. A dark mist will surround a circle around the altar, preventing the exile from leaving, and previously killed monsters will be resurrected.
The pinnacle encounter of Ritual is the The King in the Mists, accessed through using

A preview of the Ritual mechanic is found in campaign, in the act 1 areas Hunting Grounds and Freythorn.
Mechanics
Killing monsters within the circle will grant tribute. After a ritual altar is complete, tribute earned can be spent at the altar for rewards. Multiple ritual altars will appear in a given map, and monsters sacrificed at previously completed altars will reappear at following altars. Each time a monster is revived, it gives less tribute than before, unless the atlas notable Reinvigorated Sacrifices is taken.
It is possible to "drag" monsters (e.g. Rogue Exiles) into the Ritual area before killing them to cause them to be resurrected during the ritual encounter. Similarly, monsters that move out of the area before dying will not be resurrected.
Ritual Rewards
The reward screen offers a selection of items for purchase, in exchange for tribute. Rituals in maps always contain at least one Omen, with a chance for an additional Omen.
The rewards are split into three groups, with each group revealed after completing one of the rituals in the map. The rewards are sorted based on price, so the last group revealed contains the most expensive items.
Each item rewarded by ritual is grouped into a tier, and will always cost a similar amount.
