The King in the Mists is the pinnacle boss of the Ritual map mechanic. He is found in the Crux of Nothingness, accessible by spending Petition SplintersPetition SplinterStack Size: 300Consume at least 50 Splinters at the Realmgate to travel to the Crux of Nothingness. at the Realmgate.

Phase 2

The player is teleported to a very large arena covered in a maze of thick vines which cannot be crossed. The arena fills with Branching Affliction, a stacking debuff that deals physical and chaos damage over time. Follow the Sacred Wisps' path towards the large purple portal back to the arena.

Unlike in Path of Exile, the maze phase cannot be bypassed by dying or logging out in Difficulty 3. Logging out will consume a respawn attempt.

Version history

Version	Changes
0.3.0	Currently, access to most Pinnacle Content requires the same key at the easiest, and most difficult version of the content. This creates a negative feeling where at lower difficulties, instead of wanting to run the content, you're often better off just selling it to someone who can run it at maximum difficulty. To address this, each content (excluding The Arbiter of Ash) will now drop Splinters, which will not form into singular Items. Instead of using the singular, combined item in the Realmgate, you can now just bring your Splinters. Upon inserting the splinters into the Realmgate, an interface will appear allowing you to pick your difficulty, each with a different entry cost. Reduced the number of difficulties from 0-4 to 1-3. [Undocumented] Now has 0 respawn chances at Difficulty 3. [Undocumented] As a result of this change, the corresponding Atlas Passive Trees no longer affects the difficulty of the content, and has been changed to purely affect the content in the Maps on the Atlas. Now ranges from Area/Monster Level 78-82, instead of 80-82. [Undocumented]
0.2.0f	Pinnacle Bosses now have unlimited respawn attempts at Difficulty 0.
0.2.0	All Bosses that are affected by Difficulty and Simulacrum can now drop all of their specific unique items at any Difficulty, however rare uniques are even rarer at lower difficulties. This also applies to the drop chances for Reliquary keys from this content. Pinnacle boss content now takes roughly half the amount of time to unlock compared to before. In addition, Pinnacle bosses have been made much easier at Difficulty 0 as well. It's our intention to allow you to face Difficulty 0 of this content much earlier in your endgame progression while still preserving the difficulty of Difficulty 4. Players no longer lose experience from dying in Simulacrum, The Twisted Domain, Olroth's arena inside Logbooks, the Crux of Nothingness, or The Burning Monolith. Players also no longer gain experience from killing monsters in these areas. The Life of the following Pinnacle Bosses has been adjusted: Olroth, The Origin of the Fall, Xesht, We That Are One, The King in the Mists, and The Arbiter of Ash. At difficulty 0 they now have roughly half the maximum Life as before, scaling back up to be unchanged by difficulty 4. The following bosses no longer have armour penetration: Olroth, The Origin of the Fall, Xesht, We That Are One, The King in the Mists, and The Arbiter of Ash.
0.1.1c	Added up to five respawn attempts for the Crux of Nothingness area, based on the area difficulty. If you die before killing The King of the Mists, reviving will place you inside the boss arena and begin the fight again. Respawns can only be triggered by the person who put in the Expedition Logbook, Breachstone or An Audience with the King, and everyone in your party will be respawned at the same time.
