As of version 0.2.0g, it is no longer possible to modify quality by corrupting caster weapons (staff, wand, sceptre). Existing corrupted items from before this version with 21%-23% quality from corruption are technically legacy variants, particularly items that cannot be crafted/obtained through an exceptional base post-version 0.3.0, such as Sacred Flame.

Skill Gems or equipment that grant Skills grant a specific bonus to their Skill based on their Quality.

Quality is a stat that improves the signature stats of an equipment or adds additional bonuses to skill gems. Each item type has a currency item associated with it that increases its quality.

Mechanics

Quality can be applied to most equipment (quivers, jewels, and belts are the exceptions). Any item with at least 1% quality will state "Superior" in front of the base type when dropped on the ground but not when in the inventory.

Most items which can have quality have a default maximum of 20% quality, and some item classes can achieve up to 23% quality through corruption. Breach RingBreach RingRequires Level 40Maximum Quality is 40%s can have up to 40% quality. Effects which grant a global increase to gem quality apply independently of this maximum.

Normal and unique items (including boss drops) of at least item level 78 can rarely drop with quality over 20% (up to 30%), which will state "Exceptional" in front of the base type until it is upgrade/identified. This temporary affix is also shared with items that drop with an additional item socket over the default maximum.

Quality is a unique multiplier to the related stat that is applied after all other modifiers, including corruption/sanctification magnitude modifiers, and rounding. Values are truncated after the quality multiplier is applied.

Charm quality cannot be manually increased, though they can drop with quality and can have their quality modified through corruption.

For items that grant an inherent skill as an implicit modifier, additional quality will also add quality to the attached skill.

Amount

The amount of quality given by a quality-increasing currency item depends on the equipment's item level. The higher the item level, the less quality each currency item will give. Gemcutter's PrismGemcutter's PrismStack Size: 20Improves the quality of a skill gemRight click this item then left click a skill gem to apply it. The maximum quality is 20%.s always add 5% to a skill gem.

Corrupting a flask, charm, or skill gem may cause it to gain or lose up to 10% quality, and can exceed the 20% cap, up to 23%. Support gems cannot have quality added to them.

Version history

Version Changes
0.3.0
  • Items found in very high level areas that can have random quality can now have up to 30% quality. Quality currency still cannot apply more than 20% Quality to an item.
0.2.0g
  • Sceptres, Wands, and Staves can now correctly roll an additional Rune Socket as a Corruption outcome.
    • This replaced the outcome that grants ±10% to caster weapon Quality, up to 23%, which also affected the quality of granted skills.[Undocumented]
0.2.0
  • Fixed a bug where Quality on Sceptres multiplied the amount of Spirit they granted instead of granting Quality to their inherent Skill.
0.1.1
  • Flasks with Quality are now able to be salvaged.
0.1.0
  • Introduced to the game.

Notes

  1. As of version 0.2.0, inherent skills found on wands, sceptres, and staves now gain an equivalent amount of quality as the weapon itself. This is correctly reflected in the Skills Panel, but is currently not reflected in the gem's hover tooltip.[Likely due to a bug] Global quality effects apply to Wand/Sceptres/Staves and are reflected in both gem's hover tooltip as well as Skills Panel.
