Corrupted Areas cause slain monsters to Coalesce Corruption to manifest powerful monsters.
Coalesced Corruption, also known as simply Corruption or Beyond, is a type of map encounter that appears in areas affected by corruption. Monsters slain close together in these areas have a chance to merge together and manifest more powerful monsters.
Mechanics
Corrupted areas always have an innate +1 to monster level, and can sometimes roll other additional modifiers tied to the corruption encounter. These modifiers are removed if the corruption encounter is removed from a map, such as through failing a map.
Defeating Beyond monsters has a chance to spawn stronger and higher rarity monsters. It is possible to sometimes spawn a unique Beyond boss.
Corrupted Nexus
Several maps with Coalesced Corruption will surround a map indicated as a Corrupted Nexus. The Corrupted Nexus will always contain a Beyond boss.
Completing the Corrupted Nexus map will cause all nearby maps with Coalesced Corruption to become cleansed maps instead, causing different monsters to appear.
