Trial of the Ancestors is one of the secondary main story quests in Act 4, where you're travelling to one of the many islands.

The quest is begun by killing Krutog, Lord of Kin in Volcanic Warrens and free Matiki from his cage afterwards, who tells us, that he will show you his tribes most sacred place at the Eye of Hinekora, which is unlocked alongside the conversation.

Quest Walkthrough

Eye of Hinekora

Traversing through a Passageway on the we arrive at a sealed path, where we can talk to Matiki, who is here alongside Navali, the Speaker of Hinekora, and Yama on her shoulder.

We peer into the Well of Passing, where Hinekora deeems us worthy for the Trials. The 3 trials we have to face are the Tests of Mettle from Kaom, Maata and Rakiata.

Every Test is a fight against 3 waves of monsters, getting stronger each wave. Each Test contains a different type of enemies with one rare humanoid enemy in the last wave.

Kaom's Test of Mettle is a fight against warriors of Tukohama, Maata's Test of Mettle is a battle against Tawhoa's Animals and Rakiata's Test of Mettle is a battle against Tasalio Fishermen.

After the trials, Hinekora welcomes us to the Halls of the Dead.

Halls of the Dead

Within the Halls of Dead we can face 3 other Trials (see Points of Interest in Halls of the Dead), which are similar to the ones in Eye of Hinekora, that reward permanent stat bonus items. After travelling through the Halls of the Dead, there is one last test to face: Yama's Test, where we fight Yama, who upon climbing to the top off his staff becomes Yama The White.

After defeating him, he drops a Silver CoinSilver CoinTo the unknowing, it is nothing. To Yama, it is everything. This Silver Coin can be exchanged with Navali in Halls of the Dead., declares us worthy as well and grants us passage to see Hinekora, the Mother of Death, who resides in Trial of the Ancestors, which we can reach through a portal at the end of the Halls of the Dead.

Trial of the Ancestors

Upon taking the portal to the Trial of the Ancestors we arrive in a huge room, where we need to speak with Navali in order to exchange Yamas Silver CoinSilver CoinTo the unknowing, it is nothing. To Yama, it is everything. This Silver Coin can be exchanged with Navali in Halls of the Dead. for a conversation with Hinekora, who tells us a cryptic vision of the future.

The question asked and the answer given depend on the Character Base Class of the character (not Ascendancy), although every character moreless asks about his or her future, but not all of them are bright.

After receiving our prophecy, we also get the Tattoo of HinekoraTattoo of HinekoraGrants two Weapon Set Passive Skill PointsHinekora is not the master of Death, but she is its Mother.Right-click to apply the Tattoo directly to your body and gain two Weapon Set Passive Skill Points..
