Smith's Masterwork is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Smith of Kitava that prevents you from equipping body armour that isn't Normal rarity, but opens access to a variety of ascendancy passives that grant bonuses to your body armour. You also gain additional Armour rating for each these passives that have been allocated. This passive can be allocated for free.

The following skills can be allocated for 1 ascendancy passive skill each once Smith's Masterwork is taken:

Molten Symbol	Body Armour grants 25% of Physical Damage from Hits taken as Fire Damage
Flowing Metal	Body Armour grants +50% of Armour also applies to Elemental Damage
Heatproofing	Body Armour grants Unaffected by Damaging Ailments
Support Straps	Body Armour grants 20% increased Strength
Kitavan Engraving	Body Armour grants 15% increased maximum Life
Tantalum Alloy	Body Armour grants +75% to Fire Resistance
Kitavan Imprint	Body Armour grants 60% increased Glory generation
Spiked Plates	Body Armour grants 100% increased Thorns damage

0.4.0	Each Notable connected to the Smith's Masterwork Notable now grants +200 to Armour in addition to its other bonuses. Padded Plates has been removed. Lead Lining has been removed. Heavy Bracing has been removed. Added Kitavan Imprint in place of Padded Plates, which causes your Body Armour to grant 60% increased Glory Generation. Added Spiked Plates in place of Lead Lining, which causes your Body Armour to grant 100% increased Thorns Damage. Added Tribute to Utula in place of Heavy Bracing, which causes your Body Armour to grant 30% increased Spirit. Internal Layer now reduces Critical Damage taken by 100% (previously 50%). Heatproofing now causes your Body Armour to grant the bonus of being Unaffected by all Damaging Ailments (previously just ignite).
0.3.0	The Flowing Metal Notable Passive Skill now causes Body Armour to grant 50% of Armour to also applies to Elemental Damage from Hits (previously caused Body Armour to grant +5% to Maximum Fire Resistance). The Leather Bindings Notable Passive Skill now causes Body Armour to grant regenerate 3% of maximum Life per second (previously 5%).
