Item socket
Item sockets (also known as rune sockets) are slots found on equipment such as weapons or armour or into which certain items can be placed, which are collectively known as socketables.
Mechanics
Item sockets can hold socketable items which add an enchantment to the item. They generally grant offensive modifiers to martial weapons, caster-related modifiers to wands and staves, minion-related modifiers to sceptres, and defensive modifiers to armour. Once socketed, the socketable item cannot be removed, but can be overwritten by another socketable item.
Current socketable item categories include:
- Runes - can drop anywhere.
- Exclusive runes can only be found in The Phaaryl Megalith unique map.
- Soul cores - obtained as rewards in the Trials of Chaos.
- Talismans - can drop from Azmerian wisp-possessed monsters.
- Abyssal eyes - obtained as rewards in the Abyssal Depths. Limited to 1 Abyssal eye.
