Item sockets (also known as rune sockets) are slots found on equipment such as weapons or armour or into which certain items can be placed, which are collectively known as socketables.
Mechanics
Item sockets can hold socketable items which add an enchantment to the item. They generally grant offensive modifiers to martial weapons, caster-related modifiers to wands and staves, minion-related modifiers to sceptres, and defensive modifiers to armour. Once socketed, the socketable item cannot be removed, but can be overwritten by another socketable item.
Current socketable item categories include:
- Runes - can drop anywhere.
- Exclusive runes can only be found in The Phaaryl Megalith unique map.
- Soul cores - obtained as rewards in the Trials of Chaos.
- Talismans - can drop from Azmerian wisp-possessed monsters.
- Abyssal eyes - obtained as rewards in the Abyssal Depths. Limited to 1 Abyssal eye.
Sockets can be increased through the use of an Artificer's OrbArtificer's OrbStack Size: 20Adds a Rune Socket to a Martial Weapon, wand, staff or ArmourRight click this item then left click a Martial Weapon, wand, staff or Armour to apply it.. Body armours and two-handed weapons can have up to 2 maximum sockets, while other types of armour and weapons can have up to 1. Some unique items have additional sockets beyond the normal limit.
An additional item socket can also be added as result of corruption, such as using a Vaal OrbVaal OrbStack Size: 20Modifies an item unpredictably and Corrupts itRight click this item then left click an item to corrupt it. Corrupted items cannot be modified again., bypassing the usual limit.
