Augments (previously known as Socketables) are a category of several groups of items that can socketed into an augment socket on an equipment item, adding a variety of bonuses. Bonuses from augments appear as enchantments.
Mechanics
Augments can be placed in augment sockets to add an enchantment to the item. Augments typically grant offensive modifiers to martial weapons, caster-related modifiers to wands and staves, minion-related modifiers to sceptres, and defensive modifiers to armour, shields, and foci. Once socketed, augments cannot normally be removed, but can be replaced by another augment. Doing so will destroy the previous augment.
It is possible to remove an augment without destroying it using an

(or its crafting bench equivalent from Atziri's Temple); however, doing so will destroy the item it was socketed into.
Certain augments have a limit of one per character. If a character is equipped with multiple pieces of equipment with the same augments, the items socketed with these augments will be disabled.
Some augments are classified as Ancient Augments, which have a shared limit of one per character. Augments that are considered Ancient Augments include Abyssal eyes and special soul cores found in Atziri's Temple.
