Eldritch Empowerment is a notable Ascendancy passive skill for the Lich that causes spells to sacrifice energy shield whenever they are used and give it more damage. Energy shield spent this way does not interrupt recharge.

Mechanics

The sacrificed energy shield is not considered to be part of the skill's cost. You cannot sacrifice a resource you do not have.

Instead, it now provides Spells deal 30% more Damage when Sacrificing Energy Shield, Sacrifice 5% of maximum Energy Shield when you Cast a Spell, and Sacrificing Energy Shield does not interrupt Recharge.

Examples include Elemental Discharge, Impending Doom's Doom Blast and Blink. Spells you cast yourself granted from Wands and Staves will still be able to get additional costs.
