Asynchronous trading

Asynchronous trading allows players to exchange non-currency items with other players without directly trading with them, generally those that cannot be exchanged through the Currency Exchange. Asynchronous Trade uses Merchant's Tabs, which unlike a stash tab is more akin to a populatable vendor window.

Asynchronous Trade can be accessed by talking to Ange, after inviting her to hideout. Asynchronous Trade is made available in Act 4 through Ange after speaking with her for the first time in a league. A hideout is required to use Asynchronous Trade; if one has not been already previously unlocked, the player will need to complete the quest Hostile Takeover first.

A notification will also occur.

Items can be listed for a price of the seller's choosing in one type of currency. Items that are listed for sale have a cooldown before the item can be removed early or have their price adjusted, and this cooldown refreshes when a new player joins your hideout. There is an initial grace period before the item is first listed on the trade site, however. Other players can then choose to browse the item on the official trade website or the in-game market browser. Clicking the "Secure Item" button will allow the buyer to teleport to the seller's hideout to be able to immediately purchase the item from their Merchant's Tab, even if the seller is offline. The selected item will be highlighted with a purple border.

When purchasing items from the seller, the buyer can also browse other items listed for sale by that player.

Once a sale is completed, an icon will appear over Ange to indicate the earnings can be collected, and a notification will appear in the bottom right of the screen immediately, or when the buyer logs in if they were offline at the time of sale. Currency from successful trades will be placed in an additional remove-only "Earnings" tab under Ange's Merchant's Tab UI.

Only 24 non-party non-friend players can be in your hideout at once.

Merchant's Tab

Merchant's Tabs are accessed through Ange, rather than the player's stash. Items must be individually priced when placed in a Merchant's Tab. It is not possible to set a bulk price for the entire tab like with a Premium Stash Tab. However, the interface will remember the last used price. Merchant's Tabs are not granted for free; players will need to purchase or convert to at least one Merchant's Tab to be able to list items using the asynchronous trading feature.

Premium Stash Tabs purchased before version 0.3.0 can be converted into Merchant's Tabs at any time after the release of version 0.3.0 in the player's account under "Manage Account" on the official POE website. Premium Stash Tabs purchased after this point cannot be converted, as Merchant's Tabs can be purchased directly from the MTX shop. Quad Stash Tabs cannot be converted. Any items in an existing upgraded stash tab will remain in a remove-only version of the Premium Stash Tab.

Additional regular stash tabs that were upgraded to Premium Stash Tabs cannot currently be converted to a Merchant's Tab.

Warning about Premium Stash Tab to Merchant's Tab conversion

Premium Stash Tabs converted this way will become unavailable in Path of Exile 1 until Asynchronous Trade is implemented in that game. Additionally, Merchant's Tabs cannot be accessed in solo self found.

Gold tax

Although the seller incurs no additional fee, the buyer will need to pay an additional gold fee. The gold is not given back to the seller. The gold fee is listed on both the trade listing and the in the item's tooltip when buying.

The gold fee is pre-determined as "a multiplier per level of what the shop prices are". More specifically, it appears to be a function of the item's rarity tier, item level, and other factors; the exact formula is still unknown at the moment.
